Some ‘March Madness’ Pools Are Illegal In Minnesota

Be careful when it comes to placing bets on March Madness - sometimes it can be considered illegal here in Minnesota.

Basically, if you work at a company and bet money on the brackets, that would be considered a bet, and illegal. Especially if the organizer takes a cut of the money.

Blake Nelson, partner at Hellmuth & Johnson, says “If you want to make it more exciting, the business could pay out a prize or give something else to the winner like a shirt but above all else just don’t accept cash from employees or those participating in the pool.”
