Safely Dispose of Unused Medications Locally
The Sauk Rapids Police Department invites everyone in the community to participate in the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
This important event is designed to help people safely get rid of any unused or expired prescription medications they may have at home.
We all know how easy it can be to forget about those old pill bottles sitting in the back of the medicine cabinet. Maybe they were for a surgery years ago, or something you just never finished taking.
WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?
So what's the big deal about getting rid of these old prescription medications? Why is this so important? Whatever the case may be, holding on to them can be dangerous. Children or pets might find them by accident, or they could be misused by someone else. Or, you could grab the WRONG prescription, or forget that perhaps your medications changed after being on one for a long time. That is why this event is so valuable.

The Take Back event gives everyone in Sauk Rapids a simple and safe way to dispose of prescription drugs. There are no questions asked, and it is completely free. You can drop off your medications at the Sauk Rapids Police Department on Saturday, October 25, from 10 am until 2 pm.
WHAT CAN BE DISPOSED OF
You can bring in prescription pills, over-the-counter medications, and even pet medicines. New this year, you can also bring in syringes, needles, and other sharps.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE DROPPING OFF YOUR EXPIRED PRESCRIPTIONS
Please remove or black out your personal information on the labels before you come. Everything that is collected will be handled safely and destroyed according to federal guidelines.
HOW YOU ARE HELPING YOUR COMMUNITY
This simple act helps keep our community safer. It reduces the risk of prescription drug misuse and addiction. It also helps protect our environment since medications should never be flushed or thrown in the trash.
Events like this remind us that little steps can make a big difference. By cleaning out your medicine cabinet, you are helping protect your family, your neighbors, and your community.
So gather up those unused medications and bring them in on October 25. Tell your friends and family, too. The more people who participate, the greater the impact we can make together right here in Sauk Rapids.
