PORCH PIRATES ARE HAPPY TO TAKE YOUR PACKAGES

It amazes me that people you never thought would steal a package off your front steps, feels that it's okay to do so.

Hillary Smith ordered a gift for her boss, and had it delivered to her home in St. Paul.

Although she never received the package, she DID receive a nasty little thank you note where the package had probably been left.

The letter said:

"So just a quick little thank you for leaving me the (opportunity) of stealing your package. Very nice of you. Thank you."
The porch pirate signed the note, "The new owner of your package."

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

Even if you have a video camera that tapes the crime, it is most likely never going to be recovered. Here are some tips.

  • If you are going to have a package delivered to your home, make sure that someone is going to be there to pick it up as soon as it is delivered.
  • If you are not going to be home, ask a neighbor to watch out for it and pick it up for you, or possibly have it delivered to their home address if you cannot be there.
  • If you boss doesn't mind, have your packages delivered to your work address, where someone is always there to accept the packages.
