Growing up there was nothing like heading to the lake on a hot summer weekend. I grew up in Long Prairie and had a lot of family around the lakes of Alexandria, and on our way there and back there was usually a stop at Tip Top Dairy Bar for an ice cream treat.

This walk up dairy treat stand was started by Norman Hansen in 1955. Tip Top has had various owners over these 65 years, but the name, friendly service and quality food items have remained unchanged.

My go-to growing up was always a twist cone of vanilla and chocolate. It's a classic that can't be beat. Their ice cream menu also boasts a large selection of Cyclone treats. These blended ice cream creations come in super fun flavor combos like s'mores, banana pudding, tropical, German chocolate and so many others.

And for those of us that can't eat ice cream like we used to (me, hello new diary allergy) they even off a non-dairy ice cream option with rotating flavors.

Needing something with a little more substance? Tip Top offers a food menu as well with sandwich, burger, chicken, shrimp and hot dog baskets. They even have to-die-for sloppy joes. So good.

Tip Top Dairy Bar will be opening for the 2020 spring/summer season on Monday, March 30th at 11 am.
