ST. CLOUD -- After six months Navy Veteran Chris Ring has become the first american to swim the Mississippi River.

Yesterday (Friday) Ring ended his journey at the Head of Passes in Louisiana, where the river splits off in three directions.

Ring started swimming the river back on June 6th, to help raise awareness to families dealing with the loss of a loved one who served our country and to honor those heroes.

During his journey, he swam over 2,300 miles, an average of 14-20 miles a day, six days a week, for about eight hours a day.

The "Swim for a Sacrifice" challenge is put on by Legacies Alive, who sponsored Ring on his journey.
