Is there anything more wholesome than a tater tot hotdish? The creamy meat/veggie/canned soup base, crispy tater tots, and gooey cheese, baked to a lava-like temperature. Mmm, magical.

Our beloved tater tot hotdish has just been named by Wallethub as Minnesota's favorite comfort food, as it should be.

This finding was done in conjunction with a study they did on obesity across the United States.

In order to determine the fattest states in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key dimensions: 1) Obesity & Overweight Prevalence, 2) Health Consequences and 3) Food & Fitness.

Minnesota was actually one of the healthiest states in the nation based on their findings. We ranked #46 overall and even were one of the states with the lowest high blood pressure numbers in adults. Only Massachusetts, Washington DC, Colorado, Hawaii, and Utah ranked as less obese than Minnesota.

From a personal perspective, I think what keeps Minnesotans on the healthier side of the spectrum is how busy and active we always are. We aren't the kind of people that sit idle. We are go go go, sun up to sundown. Which helps counter those delicious comfort food hotdish meals we are so good at making.

Other popular comfort foods from our neck of the woods:

Iowa: Loose Meat Sandwiches

North Dakota: Kuchen (German cake)

South Dakota: Chislic (cubed fried meat)

Wisconsin: Fried Cheese Curds
