Minnesotans Have Their Own Weird Way Of Measuring Distance

Minnesotans have a way of measuring distance that is pretty unique. We throw the word "miles" around with the best of them, but real Minnesota distance in measured in time it takes to get there.

Next Door = 1 - 4 minute drive

Up/Down the Road = 5 - 10 minute drive

A Few Miles = 10 - 20 minute drive

Not Too Far = Less than an hour drive

A Little Ways Away = Over an hour, but less than two

That's a Hike = Anything beyond a two hour drive.

As far as giving solid directions, it usually involves taking a left by a barn, straight passed the large tree, or going through a small town with only one turn out of it. If you start to see the old Miller family farm you've gone too far. Good luck navigating the land of 10,000 Lakes!
