The Minnesota State Fair has made the call, and the fair will not be happening in 2020. The fair board has been in talks with other fairs and monitoring what has been happening in the entertainment industry across the country, and hosting the event just isn't possible this year.

A message posted to Facebook by Minnesota State Fair General Manager Jerry Hammer said:

This will have a big impact on thousands of businesses and the tens of thousands of people whose talent, dedication and love bring the fair to life. We understand exactly what they’re going through because we’re going through the same thing.

Officials from the fair board said that if a fair happened this year it would be unrecognizable. They don't want to risk people's health and want to do the right thing for everyone.

The goal of the Minnesota State Fair has always been to make it accessible for everyone, so opening just for the healthy people that want to show up wouldn't cut it.

All fair board members voted in favor of canceling the state fair in 2020.
