“Day of Unity” Declared for this Friday by Minnesota Governor
The events of last Wednesday in Minneapolis has made National news. It has been recognized at the Golden Globes this past weekend, and anywhere you look on social media there is no way you could miss what happed between an ICE agent and a resident of a particular neighborhood in Minneapolis.
MANY OPINIONS AND PERSPECTIVES REGARDING THE INCIDENT
No matter what you believe happened in this incident, I think most people will agree that it was a tragic incident. The neighborhood has been blocked off since last week and has been used as an area of mourning for people who want/need to do so.
MINNESOTA GOVERNOR TIM WALZ CALLS FOR UNITY
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has now declared that Friday will be a "Day of Unity". It's not just for Minnesotans, Walz is asking the entire country to use Friday as a day to remember Renee Good, the woman who lost her life last week Wednesday.
So, what exactly is a Day of Unity? Walz is saying it's just a day for people to come together and remember Renee Good. From KARE 11:
Former neighbors in Kansas City told KMBC that Good is, "A neighbor who, you know, is not a terrorist. Not an extremist. That was just a mom who loved her kids, loved her spouse."
Gov Walz had this to say regarding the Day of Unity:
“Renee Nicole Good was a loving mother, partner, daughter, and neighbor whose life was defined by compassion, creativity, and care for others,” said Governor Walz. “While we cannot bring back Renee Nicole Good, we can honor her life by standing together for decency, democracy, compassion, and our shared values. I invite all Minnesotans and Americans to join me in a day of unity, and honoring her with a moment of silence and participating in acts of service.”
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS FRIDAY
Mostly it entails a moment of silence at 10am on Friday. It is absolutely up to every individual whether or not you would like to participate in this event or not. There is also a go fund me page that has been set up for Good's family. If you are interested in donating, you can do that by going to that page linked above. There was a 50K goal, and so far $1.4 million has been raised.
