Lauren Alaina Breaks Down as Reba McEntire Tells Her She’s Won ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year
It has been a good year for Lauren Alaina, but the highlight has probably been the call she got from Reba McEntire on Monday morning (March 26). The legend rang to tell the "Doin' Fine" singer she won ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year, but is met with silence on the other end.
In the clip below from the ACM's Facebook page, Alaina can't speak — she covers her face as she breaks into tears, unable to get word out as McEntire waits patiently on the phone.
"You're going to make me cry now, cut that out," McEntire tells her, choking up too. "Honey, I'm so proud for you. You guys have worked so hard and this is what our business needs, more like you."
McEntire — who is hosting the 2018 ACM Awards — congratulates both Alaina and her longtime manager, Trisha McClanahan, as the new award winner tries to gain composure. When asking if she's okay, Alaina responds with a resounding, "No!"
"I can't wait to see the video of it. That's the most priceless reaction you could receive when given great news like this. I assume you'll be at the ACMs?" McEntire asks.
"I think I'll be there Miss Reba," Alaina confirms.
With a promise to "hug your neck in person," McEntire tells Alaina to celebrate her win "all day long, all year too."
Hands shaking, Alaina scurries off the phone to call her mom and dad to share the good news ahead of the 2018 ACM Awards, which air on CBS on April 15 live from Las Vegas. Alaina is also nominated for Vocal Event of the Year for "What Ifs."
Remember: The best way to watch the ACM Awards is on TV, with TOC on your phone.
