The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that there is a recall on John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers. Kawasaki Motors USA says that there is an issue that could cause a fire and potentially burn the person using the mower.

The issue is that voltage regulator in the mower's engine can fail during use or even while the mower is being stored. This failure can cause the engine to overheat, which is where the fire risk comes to play.

There are four model numbers of the John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers that fall under the recall. Model Z720E with a starting serial number 1TC720E****010001 and an ending serial number of 1TC720E****080657, Model Z730M with a starting serial number 1TC730M****010001 and an ending serial number 1TC730M****080574, Model Z740R with a starting serial number 1TC740R****010001 and an ending serial number 1TC740R****080462, and Model Z760R with a starting serial number 1TC760R with a starting serial number 080001 and an ending serial number 1TC760R****080339.

There have been five reported fires along with twenty-six reports of melting and or smoking. Luckily there have been no reported injuries to this point.

If you own one of the mowers that are involved in this recall, you are urged to not use the mower, which this time of year, shouldn’t be an issue. But you are asked to contact an authorized John Deere Dealer for a free repair.

The company says there were around 39,000 of these mowers sold between October 2018 and September 2024.
