Increased Fire Danger for Parts of Minnesota on Easter Sunday
Low humidities and strong winds in the forecast, combined with dry vegetation across Minnesota has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning in effect Sunday from Noon through 8 PM for much of the area including Stearns County.
West winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts of 30 mph are expected as humidity levels drop to less than 25% in the afternoon. In the Spring, before vegetation has greened, often leads to increased fire danger. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly tomorrow afternoon.
Outdoor Burning Is Not Recommended on Easter Sunday
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
