Horse Owners Beware!
Well, crap.
A disease that was recently confirmed in North and South Dakota may be on its way to Minnesota.
The disease is EHM - Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy. It's a neurologic disease. The United States Department of Agriculture states that signs, "...appear as a result of damage to blood vessels in the brain and spinal cord."
In other words: BAD.
Humans are not threatened by the disease. Among horses, however, it's highly contagious and can result in death.
Minnesota's Board of Animal Health suggests (REALLY suggests) that horse owners stay on top of their biosecurity practices.
