If you've been following the PWHL, you know that yesterday, the Professional Women's Hockey League's (PWHL) two-time Walter Cup Champions found out which two players will be leaving the Frost to join the two new teams joining the league in the Expansion Draft for the PWHL.

SEATTLE AND VANCOUVER  ADDED TO THE ROSTER FOR 2026 SEASON

The two new teams are coming from Seattle and Vancouver. Minnesota was able to protect three players from the draft. Forwards Kendall Coyne Schofield, Britta Curl-Salemme, Taylor Heise, and Defenseman Lee Stecklein will all be staying with the Minnesota Frost next season.

MINNESOTA LOSES MCQUIGGE AND KRIZOVA

I predicted that the two players leaving the Minnesota Frost would be #3 Brooke McQuigge, who scored 8 goals, and the 2024 Rookie of the Year, Grace Zumwinkle.

Vancouver chose Forwards Brook McQuigge and Denisa Krizova, while Seattle didn't pick anyone from Minnesota in the draft. They already had two former Minnesota players signed with them last week, including Claire Thompson and Sophie Jaques.

SALARY CAPS

The expansion teams are also going to have salary-cap restrictions like the other six teams.

The six existing teams each lost four players through the expansion, which allows the new teams to be competitive right out of the gate.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Beginning Monday, all 8 teams will be able to work on signing players during the free-agent signing period.

With free agency now underway, fans can expect lots of surprises in the weeks ahead as all eight teams look to strengthen their lineups. Will the Minnesota Frost focus on rebuilding their depth while continuing to defend their championship legacy? One thing is certain — the 2026 season is already shaping up to be the most exciting yet in PWHL history.
