THERE'S A NEW KIND OF SOFT DRINK IN TOWN

Two of my children work at Kwik Trips in the St. Cloud Metro area. When I picked my son up from work last night, I asked him if he wanted to get anything before we left, and he said, "Well, Pepsi has come out with something new I'd like to try."

PEPSI NITRO IS NOW AVAILABLE

I had no idea that Pepsi was working on a Nitro beverage, but sure enough, they've been working on their release of Pepsi Nitro Draft and Pepsi Nitro Vanilla Draft cola's for a while now.

The new beverages are supposedly the first soft drinks that have been infused with nitrogen, which Pepsi says, "Is softer than a soft drink." They are 230 calories instead of the traditional 150 of a regular can of Pepsi, and also have more caffeine too. 38 versus 73 mg of caffiene.

My son did his own flavor testing last night.

Serving it ice cold is ideal, and it's best to NOT add extra ice, but hey...who follows rules. Tanner said it had a 'smoother feel', and sort of reminded him of a rootbeer float.

He also said that it had a more frothy top and that the bubbly pour didn't dissolve like it usually does when you pour cola.

THE RIGHT AND WRONG WAY TO POUR A NITRO PEPSI

The company recommends that you pour the ice-cold beverage vertically into a glass, and sip the beverage WITHOUT using a straw. Pepsi says it's more than just a Pepsi, it's "an experience."

Pepsi seems to think that this is a huge step forward in the soft drink industry, and they might be on to something. They have a really cool list of unique Pepsi Nitro Drink Recipes that I'd like to try, including the Draft Espresso Mocktini, which is .75 ounces of espresso, 2 ounces of Nitro Pepsi Vanilla Draft Cola, and espresso beans for a garnish. I think I might like that!
