A MN Kids Favorite Could Have High Levels Of Lead Inside
Minnesota parents should be checking their freezers for their kids' favorite foods after the USDA has issued a public health alert. The product itself is being recalled after the USDA is concerned that it may be contaminated with unsafe levels of lead.
Dino Nuggets From Walmart
The USDA isn't issuing a recall as the product is no longer available for purchase at Walmart stores, but the USDA is asking parents out of an abundance of caution to check their freezers for the frozen product.
According to the USDA website:
"The chicken nuggets were produced on Feb. 10, 2026. The following product is subject to the public health alert:
- 29-oz. plastic bags containing approx. 36 “GREAT VALUE FULLY COOKED DINO SHAPED CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS” with “BEST IF USED BY” date “FEB 10 2027,” lot code” 0416DPO1215,” and establishment number “P44164” printed on the back of the bag.
These items were shipped to Walmart locations nationwide."
Discovered Through Routine Sampling
The issue was found through routine sampling according to the USDA.
The health issues associated with lead ingestion in children are serious. Lead can harm developing brains and nervous systems, sometimes causing lasting problems. Some of the samples taken from the product showed levels as high as five times what the Federal Drug Administration calls the interim reference level (which is 2.2 micrograms).
What Should You Do If You Have This Product?
You should either throw the product away or bring it back to the point of purchase. The product should NOT be consumed by anyone due to the risk of lead.
