Gophers ‘One and Done’ with Loss in NCAA Tournament
The #5 seed Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team (24-10) lost their first round matchup against the #12 seed Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders (31-4) 81-72 this afternoon in Milwaukee.
After jumping out to an early 7-0 lead, the Gophers looked outmatched for most of the game. MTSU led by as many as 17 in the second half before Minnesota climbed back to within 4, but that's as close as the Gophers would get.
It's the second straight year that MTSU has upset a Big Ten team in the first round. Last year Michigan State was their victim.
Middle Tennessee State advances to face #4 seed Butler Saturday in second round action back in Milwaukee.
