Most people, if they are planning on going on a trip or vacation, start planning around this time so that they can figure out their time away so it works for everyone.

THE RISE OF FUEL COSTS HAVE BEEN GOING FOR SEVERAL WEEKS

The fuel costs have been skyrocketing recently because of the conflict with Iran.  We have all been feeling that heat. It's even been affecting the cost of flights - if you have been trying to book something, you probably have noticed that the prices have been rising.  It's been a lot for everyone.

THE HIGH OIL COST HAS PROMPTED AIRLINES TO RAISE PRICES AND ALSO NOW SUSPENDING SOME ROUTES

Now, instead of just raising the cost of some flights, Delta has suspended a couple of the routes to and from Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.

They are citing the rising cost of oil prices.  They already raised some of the baggage fees, and now they have taken it a step further.

The cuts will target off-peak, edge-of-day, and red-eye flights, which are typically 15% to 20% less valuable on a net revenue basis and often become unprofitable when jet fuel prices are high. The reductions will begin this quarter and will likely extend into the summer, Joe Esposito, Delta’s Executive VP and CCO, said on Wednesday. “We’ll see where the rest of the year goes, but I think we’ll probably take a downward bias and continue to look at the summer for opportunities,”

There have been two specific flight routes that have been cut so far.

Delta Air Lines has started cutting flights at Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport as jet fuel prices surge to nearly double last year's cost, with the carrier's CEO warning of broader capacity reductions ahead.

Bring Me the News also had some more specific information on which routes were cut.

...it has cut a flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to MSP, and a departure from MSP to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY).

IF THE TREND CONTINUES, THEN TRAVEL THIS SUMMER COULD BE CHALLENGING

If this is a trend, then it will definitely slow travel throughout the summer months, which is probably the most highly travel time that we have.  So, if it continues, it will get more expensive, and less options for your travel needs.

So if you are thinking about booking a flight any time soon, you might want to look at doing that sooner than later.
