Driving in Minnesota is often an adventure. A recent survey of drivers nationwide has named the scariest/most feared road to drive in each state during winter, and Minnesota's should be very familiar to Central Minnesotans. Before we reveal the road, I'll tell you it's NOT Highway 10.

Gunther VW Daytona surveyed drivers nationwide about what roads they 'most feared' driving during winter. If it's not scary enough to be driving through snow storms, on and over ice, and let's not forget about black ice, making winter driving much more dangerous than driving during the warmer months. According to the survey of 3,000 drivers nationwide here are the top 5 most 'feared' roads in the US:

#1 Alaska Highway (Alaska Route 2)

#2 Interstate 90 (I-90), New York

#3 Seward Highway (Alaska Route 9)

#4 Pennsylvania Route 6 (U.S. Route 6)

#5 James Dalton Highway (Alaska Route 11)

In Minnesota, Central Minnesotans should be most familiar with our most 'feared' winter road...I-94.

I-94 came in at #26 on the list of most feared winter roads in the US to drive on, and this is what the survey said about the Interstate that connects the Twin Cities to St. Cloud, Fargo, Madison, and Chicago.

"Winter weather exacerbates hazards, leading to frequent accidents and multi-car pileups, especially in open areas prone to black ice."

Minnesota also had 4 other roads show up in the top 200 most feared roads to drive on in the US. At number 41 is what many refer to as Minnesota's most dangerous highway, Highway 12.

This is what the survey said about Highway 12 and its winter dangers.

"Despite safety improvements, US-12 remains one of Minnesota's most dangerous roads. Narrow lanes and hidden intersections, combined with winter conditions, lead to a significant number of accidents, including head-on collisions."

Highway 14 came in at #61 on the list, followed by Highway 10 at #109 and Highway 169 at #133.

Winter driving is only as dangerous as you make it to be on the road. Cut down your risks by slowing down, making sure your vehicle is cleared from snow before leaving, having a winter survival pack on hand, and above all else making sure you drive like you think no one else knows how.
