We’ve all heard the phrase “stop and smell the roses,” but maybe this summer is the perfect time to 'stop and see the sunflowers'.

Bright, bold, and standing tall with their yellow faces toward the sky, sunflowers are a natural mood boost, and they’re just about to hit peak season here in Minnesota. Late July through mid-August is prime time to visit a sunflower field, and luckily, there are lots of incredible spots around the state where you can walk among the blooms, snap a few cheerful photos, and take a moment to enjoy nature’s golden hour. We all need a little more of that, don't we?

Here are a few sunflower destinations worth adding to your summer bucket list:

AFTON APPLE ORCHARD - Hastings

Most people know Afton Apple for its fall apples and pumpkins, but their sunflower fields are just as magical. The Sunflower Festival's tentative dates are August  23-24 and August 30-31, from 10 am until 6 pm. The orchard offers wagon rides out to the blooms, with walking paths cut through the flowers, making it a great spot for photos or a peaceful stroll. You'll be able to pick blooms or get a vase and fill it. Prices are available on the website.

JOYER ADVENTURE FARM - Lino Lakes

This family-friendly destination combines outdoor fun with fields of sunshine. Their sunflower festival will be on August 14th, and usually includes access to the play yard, photo opportunities, and hayrides to the sunflower fields, making it a great day out for families with young kids.

TREASURE HAVEN FARM - Rush City

A hidden gem in East Central Minnesota, this small farm offers rustic charm and a more relaxed experience. Although they are still waiting for their sunflowers to bloom, their sunflower fields will be open for Casual visits. And you’ll often find local art or handmade goods for sale as well.

BRAND FARMS - Farmington

At Brand Farms, the sunflower experience is an event in itself. Their fields are known for photo-worthy views and themed weekends, sometimes even with sunflower picking or ice cream on site. It’s a feel-good stop for anyone looking to enjoy nature with a little extra flair. This location is open now through August 31sts.

LITTLE PRAIRIE - Dundas

If you’re up for an adventure, you can wander through winding paths surrounded by thousands of blooming sunflowers. It’s peaceful, playful, and a great place for family photos. Although they HAVE had mazes in the past, there won't be a maze this year; but there WILL be sunflowers in bloom waiting for your eyes to behold.

FRESH ACRES FARM- Monticello

This farm offers U-pick flowers, and the sunflower patch is the main event during late summer. Take home a bouquet, enjoy the quiet beauty of the countryside, and maybe even catch a sunset while you’re at it. The sunflower fields will be open from sunrise to sunset 7 days a week, and they have three different blooming fields to ensure there will be flowers blooming on site.
