Falcon Watch 2025: Nesting Season Begins!
NO EAGLE CAM THIS YEAR
We all were excited to find a new Eagle's nest to watch this year; and then, just like that, the camera on the new nest from the DNR was blown out of view of the nest, and because it's already nesting season, the DNR has chosen to NOT move the camera, as it could cause the Eagles to abandon their nest.
Although it is a bit disappointing that we will not be getting a nested view of the eagle nest from the DNR this year, there is a nest we have been keeping an eye on over the past few years, in addition to watching the eagles.
The DNR FalcomCam is up and running and recently a pair of falcons seem to be courting, as they have been observed in the downtown Saint Paul nest box.

ENTER BREEDING SEASON
We are just now entering the breeding season, so it will be fun to see if it is the same pair of falcons as last year.
DNRFALCON CAM IS UP AND RUNNING
Last year, there was an 11-year-old female, who has nested in that box since 2016. However, she either chose a new partner, or something happened to him, as last year she had chosen a 15-year-old male that was banded in Indiana as a chick. Will she choose him again this year? And will it be the same female in the nest as in years past?
LAST YEAR'S STORY
Last year, there were 4 eggs laid, with three of them hatching. The parents fed the chicks but one chick was unable to compete for food, and passed away due to the other eggs that hatched earlier winning the feeding battle. It broke my heart to watch.
The other chicks that survived were both males and were banded. They survived the season and fledged in early July.
I'm excited to see what happens this year. You can watch all season by clicking HERE!
