With the Minnesota Twins up for sale by the Pohlad family, people were remembering when the Pohlads purchased the team in 1984 for 38 million dollars. While people have been sharing what the family paid for the team, and now what they are asking for the team a Presidential nugget popped up. Apparently in 1984, a young US President had been bidding on buying the Minnesota Twins from the Griffith family. Do you know who that future president was?

The oppressive heat had me scrolling

I was surfing social media this weekend, as I think plenty of us tried to stay indoors with the oppressive heat we were experiencing, and I came across this nugget of Twins information in two separate places and platforms.

A future US President bid how much for the Twins in '84?

Both social media posts indicated when the Griffith family was shopping the Minnesota Twins in 1984, not only did the Pohlad family place a bid, for $38 million, the future US president, Donald J. Trump, posted a bid of $50 million for the team.

What could have happened if Trump owned the Twins?

That's right, in some alternative universe on another timeline, Donald Trump owned the Twins, and maybe still does in that scenario. It makes you wonder if Donald had gotten the team, it's unclear why his higher bid wasn't accepted, would he have spent money to compete with the Yankees and Mets of the world? Or would it have been to move the team to a state that hadn't yet fielded a professional team in Florida?

Future Of Twins Again Hangs With A Sale

The Pohlads are asking for $1.7 billion for the team, and as recently as May it seemed they just might get that much for the hometown 9, but the real question is, for fans of MLB in Minnesota, will they then stay here, or will they get moved. While there may be language in the agreement that the team has to stick out the deal with Minneapolis and Target Field, after that, who knows.

I'm hopeful that whomever buys the team, they invest in the talent on the field as much as they off the field.
