Join as many as 250 costumed reenactors for the biggest Civil War Weekend ever at Historic Fort Snelling this Saturday & Sunday. Your family can take part in hands-on activities, demonstrations, games and more, as the Fort commemorates the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.

The weekend begins Saturday morning with a reenactment of the 2nd Minnesota's return home by riverboat to Fort Snelling and closes with a flag-lowering ceremony and parade on Sunday afternoon. Each day your can watch artillery firings, take part in military drills, and see an old-fashioned baseball game and an 1860s fashion show.

Stop in the visitor center to take in the traveling exhibit, "Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War," view short films produced by the Minnesota Civil War Commemoration Task Force and hear from a rotating schedule of guest speakers.

Any day is a good day at Fort Snelling (home of half of my field trips in elementary school), but this weekend is sure to be a magnificent one.

Events are scheduled from 10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. View the complete schedule.
