A recent K9 bust near a federal prison in Minnesota netted authorities vape cartridges, cell phones, chargers, and other paraphernalia often smuggled into prisons. The bust, which was highlighted by the Mille Lacs Tribal Police, was worth more than 6 figures inside the prison according to authorities.

Mille Lacs Tribal Police shared the bust on social media.

Performance Kennels Inc. had the original social media post. Performance Kennels, according to its social media page is a Buffalo company that "Provided fully trained or green patrol, tracking, and detector dogs for law enforcement."

According to the Performance Kennel post, the bust would have been worth more than $100,000 inside of a prison.

Mille Lacs Tribal PD K-9 Layka had a super find the other night. Traffic stop was made near a Federal Prison in MN. RAS [Reasonable, Articulate Suspicion] was developed to run the dog for dope. K-9 Layka alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics. Search located some pipes that had recently been used to smoke dope. The big find was over 20 pounds of tightly wrapped cell phones, chargers, vapes, and other paraphernalia commonly smuggled into jails and prisons. Prison officials speculated that the stash would have an estimated value of $105,000 if sold in the prison. Vehicle occupants were booked. Super nice find for Layka. Very cool

Urban.org reports that the most common contraband found inside prisons are: "cell phones, medication, razor blades, and hoarded food, especially fruits that can be fermented to make alcohol. Staff also regularly find weapons and drugs during these shakedowns."
