Exciting stuff for a Friday.

I got a text from my fiance's sister showing pictures of a black bear in the backyard of their home between Long Prairie and Grey Eagle. Her message said:

I was going to go out to tan but then decided to stay inside for a bit and then I looked outside and I saw a black bear heading towards the front yard.

And it is a good thing she stayed inside because she was going to take the dogs outside too.

With more and more bear sightings happening around central Minnesota it is good to know what to do if you find yourself in the presence of one. The Humane Society of the United States says this on their website:

Stand and face the bear directly. Never run away from or approach him. Make yourself look as big as possible by spreading your arms or, better yet, a coat. Make as much noise as possible by yelling, banging pots and pans or using other noise making devices.

Keep an eye on children and pets when they are outside as well.
