With the changing of the seasons, we are seeing the beauty of all the things around us in bloom. But it also seems there’s something else in bloom, and that’s allergy season.

Some people have suffered to the point of missing time from work or personal activities because they have felt so bad. But it seems that suffering from allergies could be just the tip of the iceberg.

An article from Bloomberg talks about the results they found from a study done by “Airfinity” who call themselves disease forecasters. The study says that the group found 13 active communicable diseases, which is a lot more than we had before Covid.

People are suffering from everything from the common cold to the flu, measles, and tuberculosis.

The analysis of the data showed that forty-four counties and territories have at least one infectious disease currently that is surging. That number is 10 times higher than the numbers from 2019 and back.

Over the last two years, more and more people have been diagnosed with the flu in the United States. I have a good friend who just returned from a cruise with his family to Mexico, Belize and Honduras, and when he got back into port, started feeling bad, and missed work this week, out with the flu. He said he hadn’t felt this bad in a long time.

Experts aren’t quite sure why there’s been an increase in these illnesses, but they feel there are several factors at play. One of which is how everyone was forced to live during Covid. Being locked down and not out and about like normal could have shifted our immune systems.

Other factors could be a health-care system that in some cases is weaker than before as another contributor along with climate change and social inequality according to the article.

So, if you’ve not been feeling well lately, and you can’t seem to shake it, you might want to see your doctor, or see them again if you’ve already been in their office.

Hearing that it’s somewhat of a guessing game is frustrating as we try to figure how to take care of ourselves, but like it was being said during the pandemic, “we’re all in this together”.
