Lance Armstong has Given Up
Seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong has thrown in the towel on his fight against the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
Lance has been accused of cheating by using illegal performance enhancing substances during the time he was racing. Even though he has continually denied using any drugs, and has never tested positive for any illegal substances, Armstrong says he's done fighting.
The Agency is going to ban him from cycling for life and strip him of the titles he won every year from 1999 to 2005. Lance finally retired just last year.
In a statement on his website Lance said "There comes a time in every man's life when he has to say, 'Enough is enough.' For me, that is now."
I'm not really sure how I feel about this...if he never tested positive and he's telling the truth, why stand down? I get that it's taxing on everyone in your life when you are dealing with something like this, but at the same time, isn't it worth it to clear your name?
At the same time, is it really fair for the agency to take away his winnings when nothing has been proven? Also, this all happened in a time when most cyclists were suspected to be using performance enhancing drugs, why is is just Armstrong that is being reprimanded? This whole thing just seems a bit messy for me.
Either way, the deal is done.
