MINNESOTA MAKES THE NFL DRAFT

It might not be making the big headlines, but the number 5 pick for the NFL Draft is a Minnesotan. No, he wasn't picked by the Minnesota Vikings, but we can still cheer on one of our own. His name?  Joe Alt. Joe will be playing for the Los Angeles Chargers.

IN THE BEGINNING

Joe Alt started out as a quarterback at Totino-Gracy High School in Minnesota, and then switched over to linebacker after his first season.

JOE ALT'S HIGH SCHOOL CAREER

In his junior year, he continued to play other positions including defensive end, and tight end, and eventually would get more playing time on the offensive line, playing a blocking tight end in his final year. Joe helped his school reach two playoffs and earned All-Metro, All-District, and All-State honors in 2020.

A SUCCESSFUL FOOTBALL FAMILY

Does it make a difference if your dad plays professional football? Maybe. It seems like it makes a difference. Joe comes from a football family. His Dad John was an offensive tackle with the Chiefs from 1984 to 1996, who earned two Pro Bowl honors during his career. John was drafted as the Number 21 overall pick in the 1984 draft out of Iowa and was a Second-Team All-Pro in 1990. John was inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 2002.

NOTRE DAME PROUD

Joe ALt was a unanimous First Team All-American, he was a crucial member of the Notre Dame offense for 2023, as they finished as one of the best in their school history in points and total yards, and was considered one of the best players in the nation for protecting the passer.

Let's all keep an eye on Joe in the upcoming NFL season, and cheer him on.  :-)
