SAFETY CONCERNS CAUSE RECALL OF LAUNDRY DETERGENTS

Some things that make life easier for us as parents can also be a serious concern for our families; especially if we have children. Terrible media posts of Tide Pod challenges have put our children at risk, but sometimes it's not even the negative social media posts. This time, it's not about social media.

MASSIVE RECALL OF LAUNDRY DETERGENT BAGS

Approximately 8 million Tide Pods, Gain Flings, and other brand laundry detergent packets have been recalled, according to Proctor & Gamble and The Consumer Product Safety Commission.

DANGERS

Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods, and Ariel Pods laundry detergent packets have been recalled due to the possibility of the bags splitting open near the zipper tracks. Because of this possibility, it can cause serious injury if the detergent packets are ingested, according to an article.

It can also cause skin and eye injuries. Ingesting the product can cause death in people with underlying health conditions, and can be especially dangerous for children.

AFFECTED PRODUCTS

The recall affects the following products that were sold in flexible film bags of 12 to 39 laundry detergent packets and that were manufactured between September 2023 and February 2024:

  • Tide Pods
  • Gain Flings
  • Ace Pods
  • Ariel Pods

LOCATIONS SOLD

The products were available at the following locations:

  • Big Lots
  • CVS
  • Family Dollar
  • Home Depot
  • Sam's Club
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Amazon.com and other websites

STATEMENT

Proctor & Gamble issued this statement:

"This is a packaging issue, not a product quality or safety issue. While the product inside remains safe to use, we are voluntarily recalling a limited number of laundry pac bags and providing consumers with a replacement so they can continue safely using the product -- as millions of families do, every day."

WHAT YOU CAN DO

If you have purchased any of these products, make sure the bags are out of reach and out of sight from young children.

Customers can request a cabinet lock for use to secure laundry products and a FREE replacement child-resistant bag to store the product in.
