Here Are 5 Can’t-Miss Destinations Across Central Minnesota For Summer

Looking for something to do this summer, you know for when the kids are out of school. Why not head out on a mini-road trip? Central Minnesota has plenty to offer for those looking for a good time, and many times there isn't much cost to have some fun. Here are 5 Can't-Miss Destinations right here in Central Minnesota for you to check out this summer.

1. Motley's Old Tyme Trading Post and Ice Cream Silo

The Old Tyme Trading Post and Ice Cream Silo typically opens up in May and closes in October, so you have a window to experience some fantastic ice cream, and a world of wonders inside the Trading Post. You can find the Old Tyme Trading Post at 681 Highway 10 S in Motley.

2. Swanville Midsummer Carnival 

The Midsummer Carnival in Swanville is described as Central Minnesota's granddaddy of summer events. It's a 3-day celebration that happens in late June. This year the event is running June 28, 29, and 30th. Entertainers announced for this year are:

Saturday night: The Johnny Holm Band

3. Sauk Centre

There is usually something going on in downtown Sauk Centre, but June might be the best time to take a trip 40-ish minutes from St. Cloud. One event that is worth the drive is the Chalk in Sauk Art Festival. The event will be held this summer June 22nd and 23rd. There will be 10 professional chalk artists, artist vendors (Art on the Avenue - 510 Art Lab), an amateur area, a community mandala coloring area, food vendors, and music in the park.

4. Freeport

Freeport has a great summer road trip stop. One recent Trip Advisor review listed the Hemker Zoo as a great place to stop. "So many animals to see! The park is small so you get very close to the animals. Several opportunities to purchase feeding sessions at a reasonable price."

5. St. Cloud's Beaver Island Trail

This one is more of a physical activity for the family.  According to the County website:

The Beaver Island Trail was said to be named after the views of the multiple islands in the Mississippi River that the early explorers/settlers said had an abundance of beavers. Currently, the City of St. Cloud maintains and operates just over 5 miles of the paved surface of the Beaver Island Trail. The trail runs along the Mississippi River from St. Cloud State University to River Bluffs Regional Park. The City of St. Cloud is developing the extension from River Bluffs Regional Park to Opportunity Drive.
