
Becker Police Give Update On Destroyed Youth Baseball Shed
The Becker Police Department gave an update on the investigation into a destroyed youth baseball shed. The update indicated that fireworks and two individuals were most likely responsible for the destruction of the shed.
Fourth of July Fire Destroys Youth Baseball Shed
Becker Police Chief Chris Lindbloom gave an update on the Fourth of July fire that destroyed a Becker youth baseball shed. The update didn't name who the individuals were, pending charges from the Sherburne County Attorney's Office.
The fire was most likely started when it's alleged two adults, a male and female, lit fireworks inside a port-a-potty, causing a fire, which then spread to the storage shed that contained equipment for the Becker youth baseball team.
Becker Police Statement Regarding The Fire
At 6:49AM on the Fourth of July, Becker Police were dispatched to the Becker Athletic Complex on Morning Dove Drive in Becker. Upon arriving at the scene officers 'located two portable toilets and a shed on fire.' Becker Fire Department arrived on scene to extinguish the fire, however 'the portable toilets, shed, and it's contents were a complete loss.'
"The Becker Police Department investigated the fire and learned that an adult male and adult female had lit several fireworks in the portable toilets, which then caught fire and subsequently started the shed on fire."
The complaint was sent on to the Sherburne County Attorney's Office for possible charges, no names were released of the alleged suspects at this time.
Cost to Becker Youth Baseball Is Daunting
A GoFundMe for the youth baseball program has raised more than $5,000 towards replacing the lost equipment. The current goal of the online fundraiser is $6,500.
Local baseball programs are also assisting with fundraising, as Sartell's Baseball Association was inquiring how they could make a donation outside of the GoFundMe.
