Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a national holiday  -- so like other federal observation days, some things will be open as normal, and some will be closed.

Martin Luther King Day is observed on the third Monday of January each year. King's birthday is January 15. 2021 would have marked MLK's 92nd birthday.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 many celebrations honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. will be virtual this year.

Virtual Minnesota MLK Day Events Today

The first federal MLK Day was observed in January 1986, but many states didn't take part. The last state to adopt the MLK Day? New Hampshire, in 1999.

Pete Hanson is on 98.1 Minnesota's New Country weekday mornings from 5:30 to 10:00.
