What I Found This Weekend: Priceless
I was looking through boxes over the weekend, and I came across this tiny little diary that my Aunt Beverly had when she was 11 years old--in 1947. Beverly died of polio two years later. Her thoughts written down to share years later are priceless.
Beverly was the oldest of my Grandparents kids. My mom, Shirley, was a year or so younger. When Beverly contracted polio, it all happened very quickly. She was sick just 6 days - paralyzed from the neck down and in an iron lung at a hospital in Fargo.
I can't even imagine what that must have been like for her--and her parents and sisters at the time. Terrifying, heartbreaking, devastating.
I look forward to meeting my Aunt Beverly one day, as I believe we're all reunited again. But for now, I'll share her sweet words with everyone else. Thanks for leaving them behind, Bev.
I think I'll call you Bev.
