What Does Minnesota Smell Like?
If I had to make a general list of what our awesome state smells like it would be something like this:
- A bucket of Sweet Martha's Cookies
- An indoor ice rink - They have a specific smell. Trust me.
- Leaves in the fall
- Pine trees
- The first breath of air when you get out of the car at the lake
- The first day of Spring when the snow is melting
- Blueberry muffins (our state muffin, yes we have one of those)
Homesick Candles took certain smells that are associated with Minnesota and turned it into a candle. They thought Minnesota smells like:
A deep breath of winter air...Baked apples, puff pastry, fresh cypress, and spicy notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of fragrant clove.
That's not too far off from some of my predictions. I had a friend who recently got one of these as a gift since he is living out of state and he said it smells pretty good.

You can buy your very own Minnesota scented Homesick candle for just $34.95. It does make a great gift for a friend living out of state, or it would be a nice addition to your Minnesota home.
I didn't check but I can only assume the Wisconsin candle smells like beer and cheese. Iowa probably smells like a corn field, North Dakota has got to be sugar beets, and South Dakota found a way to bottle the scent of Wall Drug.
