All summer movie seasons end with a whimper and 2015 was no different. The final weekend of August was a pretty sad display across the board, with Straight Outta Compton nabbing the number one spot by default while just about every new release faltered. You know it’s a slow weekend when a movie promoted exclusively to faith-based audiences nabs the number two spot.

Straight Outta Compton walked away with $13 million over the weekend, bringing its current gross to $134 million. It’ll probably hit $175 million guaranteed, but it could hang around longer than that if the September doldrums kick in early enough. More importantly, it is now the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time, which is not a small genre. Even more importantly, it’s the only the second summer 2015 movie after Jurassic World to top the box office three weeks in a row. It’s no coincidence that both of these films were released by Universal. The studio dominated this summer and they’re dominating the year entirely. There has been no bigger winner this year.

Speaking of which, Jurassic World leapt back into the top 10, grossing $3 million in ninth place. This felt like one last desperate attempt to reach Titanic’s domestic gross, but it looks like it’ll be futile. Jurassic World only gets to be the third highest-grossing movie of all time.

On the opposite end of the spectrum from blockbusters about dinosaurs is War Room, a Christian drama that opened at second place with $11 million. It probably won’t do God’s Not Dead or Fireproof business, but it’s a solid start for this kind of movie. It’s probably already turned a profit.

There were a few other winners this weekend. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation kept on trucking, dropping only 28 percent and adding $8 million to its gross. With $170 million in the bank and little competition on the way, $200 million is still very likely (but it will be a fight). Elsewhere in the top 10, The Gift continued to be the surprise sleeper of the month, taking a minor drop on its way to $40 million. It won’t get to $50 million, but this thing also cost a handful of dimes and quarters to make. This is a victory. And finally, Ant-Man looks to bow out of the top 10 with $170 million, which isn’t spectacular, but it sure is solid, especially for a movie that no one expected to make a splash.

But No Escape? Dead on arrival. Sinister 2? Faltering. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.? Lucky to have Fantastic Four around to make its bombing look better. Hitman: Agent 47? Wait...that came out? Yep, summer is definitely over.
