It's true, car water bottles could cause a fire in your vehicle. According to the Women's Health Magazine, Midwest Fire Department in Oklahoma tested out the theory to see if the concentration of sunlight could actually make it hot enough to spark combustion. They concluded that the water bottles acted as a magnifying glass with the sunlight, which could make it hot enough to start a fire in your vehicle.

The fire department concluded that the actual risk of a car fire starting from a water bottle is low, but it is definitely possible. So, why risk it?

It's a good reminder for all of us to throw away used water bottles and make sure unused water bottles stay out of the direct sunlight. I'm a water bottle hoarder in my vehicle.
