Saturday Night Live opened the show this past weekend by shining the spotlight on Minnesota and the Derek Chauvin trial.

The broadcast opened with a fictional midday television news/talk show called 'Eye On Minnesota,' and focused on the Derek Chauvin trial, racial issues, and Minnesota stereotypes.

With the weatherman saying at one point when asked about the reliable Minnesota forecast:

We're in Minnesota, so the rest of April, COLD! May, COLD!, June, COLD! July, somehow hot as hell. Back to ya'll...

The sketch shines a light on the differences in perspective and opinions based on race.

The Derek Chauvin trial begins its third week of testimony today, with the prosecution expect to rest this week, with the defense beginning to present its case. Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police office, is charged in the death of George Floyd on May 25th, 2020.

Adding to Minnesota's national media exposure, a man was shot and killed by Brooklyn Center police yesterday, apparently following a traffic stop when it was discovered the man had a warrant out for his arrest. Details are unclear as to exactly what prompted the shooting as of now, but it has led to more unrest.

This morning -- CNN, NBC's Today Show, Good Morning America on ABC, CBS This Morning, and others have been carrying coverage of last night's protests, rioting, and looting in the northern Twin Cities suburb.
