Minnesota Department of Transportation is giving you an opportunity to name one of eight snowplows this winter.

With the 2020-2021 winter season officially upon us, MnDOT launched its inaugural Name a Snowplow contest. Minnesotans have an opportunity to submit names for one of eight MnDOT snowplows -- one in each district.

"It’s your time to shine, Minnesota: We need your creative, witty, punny and fun ideas for snowplow names!" the submission page reads. "The submission form will be open until Jan. 22, 2021."

Once the submission page is closed, MnDOT will share some of the best names to be voted on, though Bring Me the News has already gathered some of those names that were suggested on Twitter, including:

  • Superspreader
  • Ron Ploward
  • Kent Brrrbek
  • Justin Moresnow
  • Halloween Blizzard 1991

If this contest is anything like the contest to name the Waite Park amphitheater in 2019, then we can certainly expect some treats. We're still disappointed that "The Jewel," "The Hidden Gem," "The Blast Amp," "The Dig" and "Transformer Rocks" didn't make the final cut for "The Ledge."

BMTN notes that Scotland also held a contest to name its snowplows, with names like "Spready Mercury," "Snowbegone Kenobi," "Gritty Gritty Bang Bang," "Ready Spready Go," "David Plowie" and "Roger Spreaderer" all being suggested.
