Wacker, the university's 24th president, and first woman president, said she felt the time was right to hand over the reins to the next leader.

In my six years here, setting up a strategic framework, turning enrollment around, elevating our profile, having a little more Husky pride around, revisiting community partnerships, and engaging alumni and donors. I think the timing is perfect for me to hand this off to another person. So although I know it might feel like it's out of the blue, it really is something that I've given a great deal of thought to. The timing is right to hand this off and let somebody else build on the foundational work that my team and I have been doing for the last six years. I think I think we should all be proud of where the university is at and I have no doubt it's going to be successful moving forward.

Under her leadership, SCSU launched:

  • an accelerated online MBA program,
  • new undergraduate programs in cyber security and environmental management,
  • a cannabis certification program.

Scott Olson, the Chancellor of Minnesota State, said a search will be launched this spring to identify an interim president to start July 1st.

During her tenure, Dr. Wacker led the university through the most challenging time in higher education’s history with positivity, empathy, and vision. Her commitment to student success and Equity 2030 has laid a foundation of excellence at the university that will impact the region for years to come. I thank her for her service to Minnesota State and to the St. Cloud State University community.

Beyond university impact, Wacker has been engaged in leadership roles with:

  • St. Cloud Mayor’s Downtown Development Taskforce,
The Greater St. Cloud Chamber Downtown Alliance Board,
    Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation,
    and the Initiative Foundation.

She was recently selected by the Twin Cities Business editorial staff as “100 for 2024” – an award that highlights business leaders, trailblazers, and innovators.
