MINNEAPOLIS  -- After 10 years Minnesota's all-time leading rusher, Adrian Peterson will become an unrestricted free agent.

The Vikings decided not to exercise Peterson's option for next season. He was scheduled to make $18 million in 2017.

General manager Rick Spielman says the team will ``continue to have conversations'' with Peterson about the potential of re-signing.

Peterson played all 10 seasons with the Vikings, who drafted him seventh overall out of Oklahoma in 2007.

He is coming off his worst year as a Viking after he was limited to just 72 yards on 37 carries and tore his meniscus in his right knee that limited him to three games.
