Upsala Artist Creates RBG Portrait for the Washington Post

An artist originally from Upsala had a busy weekend.

After news broke late Friday of the passing of Supreme Court Justine Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Wayne Brezinka was contacted by the Washington Post to create a piece based on RBG for their Sunday edition.

It was around 9pm when I received confirmation from The Washington Post. The sketches were due Saturday morning by 10am followed by creating the final art in just 4 1/2 hours with minutes to spare for their hard deadline of 5pm EST.

The portrait he created is a mixed medium piece. It was created of cut-and-pasted printed paper, collage, and mixed media on wood panel. Ginsburg's hair was created by using farm rope.

The art was used in an opinion piece by Nancy Gertner, a senior lecturer at Harvard Law School and visiting lecturer at Yale Law School, is a retired U.S. District Court judge. The article detailed how much of an inspiration Ginsburg was to the author.

Her record as an advocate before the Supreme Court was outstanding; she argued six cases before the court, winning five. If she had done nothing else in her life, that alone would have been an extraordinary legacy.
