The Surprising Number Of Unclaimed Lottery Prizes

So many people talk about how much money they do not have. That's tough at any time of the year, but when the holidays roll around, it's especially difficult. And if you are struggling, then you hear about this. I don't know about you, but if I had lottery winnings coming my way I would certainly claim those winnings!

After hearing about two fifty thousand dollar winners within the last 5 days, I checked the lottery unclaimed list. Both of those two winners haven't been claimed yet. But, one was just last night and the other one was on Saturday. So, probably give those two a beat. But to be honest, if I had 50K coming my way, I would claim that thing the next day!!

It's surprising when you look at the list of unclaimed lottery winners. And it's across all of the lottery platforms. Powerball, North 5, and Scratch off lottery tickets. But many of those have been claimed, there are just some out there that are remaining. There is no way to really know if those have been won or not unless they turn them in. They just know how many have been claimed and how many there are total for each game.

The last two on this list are the ones that were just won - so, they get some grace. But the others - what the heck?? Did you lose your ticket? If that is the case, that's awful.

WHERE DOES UNCLAIMED LOTTERY MONEY GO

The point is, if you have money coming your way - get out and claim it. Or, money that isn't claimed should go to some sort of charity, right? Technically the money does go back to the Minnesota State Lottery to be distributed as they deem fit. So, do we ever get to find out where? Like a teachers/school fund or school lunches or a food shelf or somethng along those lines would be great. Some of it does, but it depends on the state.
