Two Minnesota Cities Some of the Best in the Country for Jobs

If you are looking for a job for the new year, you could be in a position of power. 2024 was a year of fairly low unemployment which means some employers are looking for people to fill certain spots within their company and are having a hard time finding them.

The shortage of quality of applicants could help you have room to negotiate a better salary or benefits package. Of course, this will depend upon the field you are applying to and more importantly, geographically, which city you are trying to find a job in.  

The folks at Wallethub looked at the best cities around the United States to find a job this year. They gauged the job market against 31 employment indicators to get their findings. 

Some of the aspects that were evaluated included the number of jobs available, what the employment growth for the area is, what the unemployment and underemployment rates are, along with starting salaries and job variety.  

Minneapolis made the Top 30, coming in at number 27. The city finished with a job market ranking of #57, a socio-economic rank of 4th and a total score of 59.17.  

What does all of that mean? Compare the total score to the city that finished first, Scottsdale Az. They were first in job market rank and tenth overall in socio-economic scores and a total score of 67.04.  

The other city in the “Twin-City” billing for Minnesota, St. Paul, is just a few miles away from Minneapolis, but is further away when it comes to being a good place to find a job.

Wallethub says that St. Paul comes in 54th on the list of having plenty of good opportunities. St. Paul’s job ranking score was 89, while the socio-economic ranking was 12th.  Their total score was 56.15 

Cities from neighboring states to Minnesota that fared well in this study include: 

Madison WI finished 15th, Bismarck ND came in 25th, Sioux Falls SD is 58th, Rapid City SD came in 89th and Milwaukee WI finished 99th.  

182 total cities were compared for this study.  

The Top 5 cities to find a job in were Scottsdale AZ, Pittsburgh PA, Columbia MD, South Burlington VT and Portland ME.
