Thankfully, every day in our regular calendar year is a national holiday (because why not?) and today, Tuesday October 11th 2016, is National Sausage Pizza Day!

This holiday definitely hits home for me today, because as I am recovering from my wisdom teeth surgery - pizza sounds amazing right now. Sadly, I have to wait probably another week before I can enjoy the savory deliciousness of National Sausage Pizza Day.

So, wanna know some pizza facts? Check em out here:

  • In ancient Greece, the Greeks covered their bread with oils, herbs, and cheese which some attribute to the beginning of the pizza.
  • The modern pizza had its beginning in Italy as the Neapolitan flatbread.
  • It was estimated that the annual production of pizza cheese in the United States in 1997 was 2 billion pounds.
  • The first United States pizza establishment opened in 1905 was in New York’s Little Italy. (Fitting!)

So, if you're wondering what's for dinner tonight, take refuge in National Sausage Pizza Day, and celebrate like the true American that you are!
