State Fair is Over, How to Do the Fair Next Year with Less Stress
The Minnesota State Fair, otherwise known as the Great Minnesota Get-Together is a thing of the past for at least another year. Most people go once, enjoy the fair, come home overly full, tired, overly stimulated - in some cases, and generally worn out having dealt with crowds, long lines, parking, and a LOT of walking.
But, there are people who go more than once during the 12 days of the fair. I don't mean people who work there - because obviously they go everyday of the fair. I mean the people who go to the fair more than once, and in some cases, every day of the fair.
This seems crazy. But, there are some things that we can learn from these crazy people.
First - buy your admission tickets on the one day advance ticket sales. That happens towards the beginning of the year, and it will save you quite a bit of money on the regular admission. I believe it might be less expensive than any other discount day during the fair. You can also purchase multiple tickets on that day, but there is a limit.
If you go multiple days, it can be less stressful. You can leisurely walk around without having to have some giant plan to "make sure to see everything" in one day. You can walk around and see a few things that you want to see/eat/do each day. It's much less stressful. Sitting and enjoying music is a great pastime too. There are a ton of free shows each day on multiple stages. And/or, if you don't have tickets to the grandstand shows, you can park yourself on a bench outside of the grandstand and still hear the music. I've done that a couple of times. Granted, you don't see the show but you can still enjoy the music from the show.
Also - if you can, avoid going during the two weekends of the fair. Those tend to be the most busy, for obvious reasons.
There are a couple of people that were interviewed and talk about the reasons that going to the fair multiple times is a good idea. Check out their stories here from Bring Me the News.
Until next year...
