ST. CLOUD -- You can gaze up at the stars or enjoy a laser light show this weekend in St. Cloud.

St. Cloud State University's physics and astronomy department is hosting planetarium shows and a laser light show Friday night at the SCSU planetarium in the Wick Science building.

Planetarium shows will be at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The 6 o'clock show, "A Halloween Star Party" will feature Halloween topics. Each show is led by Professor Todd Vaccaro.

Vaccaro says the planetarium shows will give you the clearest view possible of the stars.

"We can project basically what a night sky would look like if it were perfectly clear."

A telescope observing session will also be going on from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (assuming there's clear skies). Both the planetarium shows and observing sessions are free to attend.

The department will also be hosting the second in this semester's series of laser light shows. Friday's show theme is "Laseropolis." The show will feature a mixture of classic rock, modern pop, rock and alternative music.

A spooky themed laser light show, "Fright Light II"  will also be hosted on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Vaccaro says it's pure entertainment.

"These laser shows, since we have to rent the laser system we basically ask for a $5 per person donation. So technically it's not free but a pretty good deal. The shows run about 45 minutes."

Laser light shows will run every Friday and Saturday for the remainder of fall semester.
