Walmart just announced Wednesday May 30th that it will be rolling out a new college education option for employees. Walmart will pay for its employees to get a college education with the employee only spending $1 a day for their studies! The big box retail chain will cover the cost of tuition, books, and fees at three different universities across the country, The University of Florida in Gainesville, Brandman University in Irvine, California, and Bellevue University in Nebraska. All degrees will be online and employees that have worked for Walmart or Sam's Club for 90 days are eligible. Of course employees can't get any old degree, they have to get one in business or supply-chain management.

The overall goal for this new option is to up employee retention, and to get new applicants. Walmart has been struggling to fill open positions and this near-free college education program is sure to draw some new workers. A college education, with no debt, for a dollar a day, and a job, how could it not attract people? This would be the perfect opportunity for a high school grad that is looking to take the next step.
