Severe Weather Expected This Evening (+More)
A strong storm system will impact Central Minnesota this week, with a severe weather threat as today's opening act.
The National Weather Service says we should be 'weather aware' and be ready to act, adding we should have multiple ways to receive weather warning information.
A threat for severe weather exists this evening, especially across southern Minnesota. Large hail is expected to be the primary threat, but a lower chance for damaging wind and tornadoes also exists. Thunderstorms are most likely between 6 pm & midnight.
Thunderstorms are likely after 6 pm in the areas highlighted below. Severe thunderstorm chances increase the further south you get in Minnesota. Large hail is the main threat, but damaging winds and tornadoes are also possible.

Large hail the size of golf balls or larger primarily south of Interstate 94 between 6 pm and 9pm.
Damaging wind gusts around 60 mph will be possible later this evening, mainly between 8 pm and midnight across south-central Minnesota.
A low, but uncertain chance for tornadoes will exist across the far southern part of Minnesota, especially from 7 to 10 pm tonight. Storm track changes are still a possibility, so stay tuned to current forecasts and have a way to receive warnings.
If that's not enough for you, an extended period of mixed precipitation is likely through Friday across the region -- with rain, sleet, ice, and snow all possible. Still not enough? Parts of North Dakota could receive more than two feet of snow.
A crippling winter storm is expected to affect the Grand Forks area. A blizzard warning is in effect for the Devils Lake basin Tuesday through Thursday, while a winter storm watch is in effect for adjacent portions of North Dakota and Minnesota.
One thing's for sure, it will be a windy and active weather week. There is a chance for severe thunderstorms this evening, wind gusts of 45-55 mph Wednesday night through Thursday, and a chance for accumulating snow over central Minnesota Thursday. We'll top the week off with temperatures running around 20 degrees below normal Thursday and Friday. #ThinkSpring
