The #1 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey team (20-6-5) officially skated to a 1-1 tie against #4 University of Denver (17-7-7) Friday night in St. Cloud -- before Denver scored in the 3-on-3 overtime to earn an extra point in the NCHC standings.

The game was tied 0-0 at the end of the first period. SCSU's only goal of the game in the second period from Blake Lizotte (6) -- leaving the Huskies up 1-0 after two. Denver tied things up in the third period forcing overtime.

NCAA rules call for a single 5-on-5 overtime period, but leave conferences the ability to add an additional 3-on-3 OT session, followed by a shootout. The NCAA officially recognizes any game tied after the initial 5-on-5 OT as a tie, but the NCHC can (and deos) award standings points for winning the game in the 3-on-3 overtime or in the shootout.

NCHC Standings

Game two of the weekend series is tonight at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud with the puck set to drop at 7:00 (TV: Fox Sports North, Radio: KZRV 96.7 FM).
