Members of the Tech High School SADD organization staged a mock accident this morning at Tech High to put out a wake up call to their fellow classmates of the dangers of drinking and driving and distracted driving.

Each year, several schools across the area stage mock accidents in conjunction with local police, fire, EMS and state patrol officers. It's a wake up call to many students to make better decisions while on the road before and after their prom or in their everyday life.

I remember having one of these scenes performed when I was in high school, but the school didn't give us any notice of what was coming. We were led out to the football field and we heard the tires squealing, the glass breaking and the 911 call was placed over the loud speaker. We didn't even know that our friends were the actors in this mock accident. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Tech High at least prepared their students before they walked out the back doors to the scenes you see in the video.

Overall the SADD students did a great job despite it being cold and rainy this morning. I even saw a lot of students with tears in their eyes as I scanned the crowd. Hopefully the message was heard loud and clear today. Don't text and drive, wear your seat belt and never drink and drive. Have a safe and happy prom season.

A special thanks to St. Cloud Police, Minnesota State Troopers, St. Cloud Fire, Goldstar Ambulance and Andy's Towing for helping the students with this presentation.
